XABCD
- A simple algorithm for [[Patient Assessment]]
- Exsanguination
- Airway and Breathing
- The airway assessment is one of the most important assessments a paramedic can perform
- Failure to assess, manage, and maintain airway patency will cause future intervention attempts to result in failure
- Inadequate ventilation can be signaled by [[AMS]], dyspnea, retraction, nasal flaring, and rate/rhythm abnormalities
- Circulation
- Determining if a patient's circulation is adequate and can be done initially from a distance by looking at skin condition and color
- Assess the pulse rate, rhythm, quality, and the location of palpable pulses (radial, carotid, femoral)
- Disabilities
- Are there any notable disabilities the patient has?
- This is kind of a catch-all in the algorithm, this can be a "standard" disability like quadriplegia, or something like [[AMS]]
